Reel Wāhine of Hawai‘i Season Three

Series | Documentary | 51:40

The REEL WĀHINE OF HAWAI‘I short film series chronicles talented and pioneering women filmmakers who tell Hawaii stories uniquely through a camera lens. Season 3 features six new shorts which take a behind the scenes look at the careers and creative processes of outstanding Hawai‘i women filmmakers: MELEANNA ALULI MEYER (Maunakea: Sacred Mountain, Sacred Conduct), JOY CHONG-STANNARD (Canefield Songs: Holehole Bushi), JOAN LANDER (Act of War: the Overthrow of the Hawaiian Nation), HINALEIMOANA WONG-KALU (Kapaemahu), KIMBERLEE BASSFORD (Patsy Mink Ahead of the Majority), and ZOE EISENBERG (Stoke).

The series is a production of Hawai‘i Women in Filmmaking. Each film is a collaboration between a working Hawai’i woman filmmaker and the aspiring young woman filmmaker whom she mentors through the creative process. The series fosters an intergenerational conversation between established and emerging filmmakers, increasing opportunities for women to direct and create, and expanding the number of films featuring stories by and about women. Directed by Anne Misawa, Erin Lau, Heather H. Giugni, Shirley Thompson, Vera Zambonelli
